About this picture

Wakendorf I is a municipality in the Segeberg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The name Wakendorf I was introduced in Prussian times to differentiate the community from another community in the district called Wakendorf, 20 kilometers southwest .

Geography and traffic

Wakendorf is about nine kilometers south-southeast of the district town of Bad Segeberg and about six kilometers north of Bad Oldesloe near the Trave . It has a small station on the Neumünster – Bad Oldesloe railway line .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1249 as Wakendorpe . The dairy founded in 1911, later called Zentral-Käserei und Meierei Wakendorf I GmbH , determined the development of the town for a long time. In 1965 it was merged with the cooperative dairy in Sievershütten and closed completely in the mid-1980s.
