About this picture

Geography and traffic

Bornhöved is located about 20 km east of Neumünster on Lake Bornhöved in a rural area. This is where the Autobahn 21 and federal highway 430 intersect . From 1911 to 1961 Bornhöved was the railway station of the Kleinbahn Kiel – Segeberg , whose tracks were removed in 1962.

history

Bornhöved around 1895

The place was probably founded as a church village by Bishop Vicelin . The Vicelinkirche St. Jacobi was consecrated in 1149. Bornhöved was first mentioned by Helmold von Bosau towards the end of the 12th century. "Born" means "source" and "Höved" means "main", so Bornhöved stands for "source head".

From 1299 to 1426, the place had Luebian city rights and thus also a mayor and councilor. In addition, the state elder of Holstein-Rendsburg lived in the village, so that the town assembly for all of Holstein took place in Bornhöved until the beginning of the state parliaments in Kiel in 1480.

The central location of the room Bornhoeved was twice site of important battles: The Battle of 798 who met Charlemagne allied Slavic Abodrites under their commander Drasco to Saxony ; At the battle of 1227 , Count Adolf IV of Schauenburg and Holstein with a coalition of north German princes and cities won the Danish army under Waldemar II. With this bloody defeat, one of the last great knight battles of the Middle Ages, the attempt by the Danish crown ended. To dominate northern Germany.

In Bornhöved there were frequent meetings of the knights of Holstein and later also of Schleswig-Holstein . On December 7th, 1813, a battle between Danish and Swedish-Russian-Prussian troops of the Northern Army took place here.

From 1867 to 1871 Bornhöved was the seat of a local court.

politics

Community representation

Of the 17 seats in the municipal council, the CDU has had six seats since the 2018 local elections, the SPD three and the electoral communities BBI and WGB each have four seats.

coat of arms

Blazon : “In blue a free-floating Holstein coat of arms (in red a silver nettle leaf), on the upper edge of which there is a black flat vessel (source frame), from which three long wavy lines run down to the right and left on both sides of the nettle leaf. A man's head with its golden curls floating above the spring. "

The coat of arms, awarded in 1948, was designed in the style of a city seal from the 15th century.

Economy and Infrastructure

In the municipality, which is mainly characterized by residential use, there are several commercial, commercial and service companies. From 1911 to 1961 Bornhöved was the most important intermediate station of the Kiel-Segeberg Kleinbahn. The depot with a large workshop was also located here.

education

With the school reform decided in the state parliament, the two regional schools located in the village also changed, initially only structurally. A large new building was built on the former school yard of the secondary school. This is to connect the two neighboring Bornhöved schools (elementary and secondary school and secondary school) with one another, initially structurally, and later to form a joint community school. So far, the two schools have offered their students an open, voluntary all-day school. The school association Sventana Bornhöved recently submitted an application to the education ministry in Kiel for an upper secondary school level in the community school in Bornhöved. However, this was decided negatively. In the 2018/2019 school year, 498 students were taught in 24 classes at the Bornhöved primary and community school (Sventana school).
