Föhrden-Barl is a municipality in the west of the Segeberg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

history

The name is made up of two previously independent places: Föhrden and Barl. These were separated by the Bramau river , but there was a ford over which the river could be crossed.

Community representation

Since the local elections in 2018, the newly founded FWG (Free Voting Association Föhrden-Barl) has all nine seats in the municipal council

coat of arms

Blazon : "In gold a raised green mountain, in it under three silver leaves an openwork narrow silver wavy bar, underneath a golden amulet."

The three leaves symbolize the southern district of Föhrden, as huge beeches and oaks used to stand here. The amulet is supposed to remind of Wiebeke Kruse, a daughter of the community, and symbolizes the district of Barl.

Personalities

Wiebeke Kruse was the wife of the Danish King Christian IV, who she met around 1625 in nearby Bad Bramstedt . She was hired by him as a teacher. Later she became his lover and they got married.
