Traventhal is a municipality in the Segeberg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

Geography and traffic

Traventhal is located about five kilometers south of Bad Segeberg in a rural area on the Trave . The federal highway 21 runs to the west from Bad Segeberg to Bad Oldesloe , to the north the federal highway 206 runs from Bad Segeberg to Lübeck.

history

In 1671 the Danish King Christian V founded the Traventhal office, in which a hunting lodge was built shortly afterwards and later, at the beginning of the 18th century, a more elaborate palace complex. On August 18, 1700, the Peace of Traventhal was signed in Traventhal Castle .

The manor house was used as a retirement and nursing home until 2010. Today it houses a café. Various events have been taking place at the former state stud since 1999, during which the local state museum is open.

From 1866 until it was closed in 1960, the Schleswig-Holstein state stud with its Holstein breed was located in Traventhal.

From January 1, 1974 to December 31, 1997, Traventhal and Klein Gladebrügge formed the municipality of Groß Gladebrugge .
