About this picture

Bimöhlen is a municipality in the Bad Bramstedt-Land district and is located in the Segeberg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The district of Hof Weide and part of the Eekholt wildlife park are located in the municipality. The community belongs to the Holstein Auenland .

Geography and traffic

Bimöhlen is about four kilometers east of Bad Bramstedt and twelve kilometers south of Neumünster in a rural area. The federal motorway 7 runs to the west from Hamburg to Flensburg .

The largely natural and popular with canoeists Osterau flows through the village and forms the core of the FFH area "Osterautal". The Hasenmoor in the south of the municipality is under nature protection. The soils in Bimöhlen are predominantly sandy or boggy.

history

Geological finds show that the municipality has been populated since the Neolithic Age. There are also some Bronze Age burial mounds .

It is unclear whether the place name is derived from "Boios Mühle" or "Mühle bei der Stromkkurven" (böge). Bimöhlen was first mentioned in a document in 1189. At that time there was a tower hill castle here , of which remains are still preserved today. The place itself was originally a Rundling . Turf iron stone was mined until the 13th century .

In the Hasenmoor peat was cut until 1973 and some of it was delivered to Neumünster as fuel .

On February 25, 2016, a Federal Police Eurocopter 135 crashed near Bimöhlen, killing two people and seriously injuring a third person.

politics

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the CDU has had seven seats since the 2018 local elections and the Bimöhler voter community (BWG) four seats.
