About this picture

Negernbötel is a municipality in the Segeberg district in Schleswig-Holstein . In the municipality, which has existed in its present form since 1974, is also the former neighboring municipality of Hamdorf. The districts of Heidkaten, Stüff, Kiebitzholm, Bredensegen and Gut Maleksberg also belong to Negernbötel.

Geography and traffic

Negernbötel is located about seven kilometers northwest of Bad Segeberg in a rural area. The federal highway 404 / federal highway 21 from Bad Segeberg to Bad Oldesloe crosses the municipality, south the federal highway 206 runs from Bad Segeberg to Lübeck.

history

Long-bed graves and other archaeological finds prove a Stone Age settlement in the community area.

The place was first mentioned towards the end of the 12th century.

Until 1600 the area around Negernbötel was very humid due to the Faule Trave , after which large areas were drained.

Origin of the name

The part of the name Botele or Bötel probably comes from Lower Saxony and means residence or settlement. When another village with this name (today's Fehrenbötel ) came to the Segeberg monastery in 1306 , one had to distinguish between the two. So Negernbötel means "closer settlement", in contrast to the "distant settlement" Fehrenbötel.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1974, the neighboring community Hamdorf was incorporated.
