About this picture

Rickling , in Low German Rickel , is a municipality in the Segeberg district in Schleswig-Holstein . Fehrenbötel and Kuhlen are in the municipality, which has existed in its current form since 1970.

Geography and traffic

Rickling is located about 12 km southeast of Neumünster and 11 km northwest of Bad Segeberg on the federal highway 205 . The Rothenmühlenau flows south past the place.

The place has a stop on the Neumünster – Bad Oldesloe railway line .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1164.

During the National Socialist era, the Kuhlen concentration camp was built on the grounds of the State Association for Inner Mission in 1933 (July to October, with around 200 prisoners from Schleswig-Holstein).

Community representation

In the 2013 local elections, the CDU won eight of the 18 seats in the local council, the voting community "Active Citizens Rickling" (ABR) received six seats and the SPD four.

economy

The headquarters of the State Association for Inner Mission with its psychiatric hospital is in Rickling. The regional association is also the sponsor of the Rickling nursing home in the Johannes-Voigt-Haus and Theodor-Kaftan-Haus, to which a supervised senior citizens' residence belongs. A total of around 1100 people are cared for in the facilities mentioned.

Rickling has had its own brewery, the Ricklinger Landbrauerei, since 1996 .

Leisure and Tourism

The nature park path , which connects the five nature parks in Schleswig-Holstein for hikers, runs through Fehrenbötel .

In the community there is a sports field, an outdoor swimming pool and riding and tennis facilities.
