Ellerau [ 'ɛlə, raʊ ] is a municipality in the southern center of Schleswig-Holstein . It is located near Quickborn north of Hamburg and belongs to the Segeberg district .

geography

Ellerau is located on the Krumbek , a small stream. The south-western border of the municipality is formed by the Gronau , the western by the Pinnau . The Ebach flows in the north of the district .

In the center of Ellerau, the Krumbek is dammed up to form a few ponds, which are located in a small park.

history

Ellerau was first mentioned in a document in 1449. It belonged to Gut Kaden and was mainly inhabited by serfs. The serfdom was in the duchy of Holstein on January 1, 1805 Christian VII. Abolished. After that, the serfs became tenants or servants who were still dependent on the estate. The Gutverband was dissolved in 1873 and the Ellerau farmers were able to purchase their land.

After the end of the Second World War , Ellerau grew from 550 inhabitants to its present size, mainly due to the influx of refugees and later commuters.

Until 1998 Ellerau belonged to the office of Kaltenkirchen-Land . After leaving office, the municipality had its own administration with a full-time mayor. As part of the administrative structural reform, Ellerau formed an administrative partnership with the city of Norderstedt from January 1, 2007 , and with the city of Quickborn since July 1, 2019 .

politics

Community representation

Since the local elections in 2018, the municipal council has consisted of 20 members through overhang mandates . The electoral community BVE received 10, the SPD 5 and the CDU 5 seats.

coat of arms

Blazon : "In gold, an oblique left blue wavy bar, accompanied by two black alder branches with green leaves and black catkins (upper branch) or black cones (lower branch), the upper branch to the left, the lower to the right."

Historical reason: The place name Ellerau means "river by the alders". This word interpretation determines the image content of the coat of arms, which wants to express the place name "speaking". In addition, the branches symbolize the numerous alder trees in the community area and the wavy bar symbolizes the small floodplain in this area that flows into the Pinnau, both of which have already determined the place name. Presumably part of a Meierhof of the same name in an older time, Ellerau belonged to Gut Kaden until 1867. Then it became an independent municipality. In 1928 the disbanded manor district of Kaden was not incorporated into this municipality, but into neighboring Alveslohe.

flag

The upper alder branch of the municipality's coat of arms on a yellow flag cloth bordered by a blue stripe at the top and bottom, but with green wooden parts and inflorescences, shifted to the front, in the middle of the leech.

Community partnerships

Since 1979 there has been a partnership between the municipality of Ellerau and Højer Sogn (Eng. Hoyer) in Denmark . After a municipal reform in 2007, Højer was absorbed into the greater Tondern municipality . To keep the partnership alive, the Ellerau-Højer Circle of Friends was founded in 2010.

economy

traffic

Ellerau has a train station and an AKN stop on the Hamburg-Altona-Kaltenkirchen-Neumünster railway line , with which Hamburg Central Station can be reached in 39 to 47 minutes. The motorway junction no. 21 is only five minutes away ( A 7 ). There is also a bus connection to Norderstedt and one to Quickborn.

Established businesses

There are numerous commercial and industrial establishments in several industrial parks. The large factories are no longer present in Ellerau. Including the plastics factory "Devalit", which manufactured for the automotive industry until 1994. From 1946 to 1989, the factory for women's outerwear "Artur A. Erlhoff GmbH & Co. KG", which was known throughout Europe under the label "Erlhoff", was the economic heart of Ellerau. After the bankruptcy in 1989, the factory at the entrance to the town was bought by the fashion company Jil Sander AG . At the beginning of 2006 this last large factory was also closed because the new owner Prada relocated the textile production to Italy. In July 2007 the textile factory was partially demolished. A local supply center was opened on the site in May and August 2008.

In the Ellerau-Ost industrial park, which was newly created at the end of the 1990s, a mix of trades and industry has settled. Due to its proximity to the Autobahn 7 and the low price for commercial space, the Ellerau-Ost industrial park has developed into a business location, especially for company founders.

In August 2017, the proWIN company opened its proWIN Academy Ellerau at Buchenweg 11-13. Here, proWIN sales partners receive advanced training and seminars in the areas of sales development, sales promotion and management, as well as management training.

Culture and leisure

In the park in the center of Ellerau there is an adult education center, a library and a heated outdoor pool.

The Charles Rautenberg museum is since 1990 existing home Museum in the cultivation of the community center . The museum shows living spaces from around 1900, farm tools, folk household and work equipment, tools from a shoemaker's, tailor's, blacksmith's and joiner's workshop as well as masonry and butchering. It can be viewed on Saturday afternoon with free admission. It is named after the Quickborn druggist Karl Rautenberg, who offered his extensive collection to the former mayor of Ellerau after the Quickborn community had shown no interest. In February 1988 the local history and museum association Ellerau was founded and the museum was inaugurated two years later.
