The Trabrennbahn U-Bahn station is a stop on the Hamburg U-Bahn in the Farmsen-Berne district. The abbreviation of the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is TR.

Structure and location

Access building, design: Eugen Göbel

The Trabrennbahn stop has a central platform about 120 meters long on the embankment. Its entrances are on the west side. The stairs and elevator lead to an access building on the Traberweg street, which in this area is crossed by the subway line at approximately right angles.

history

Trabrennbahn was built as a station with the construction of the so-called Walddörferbahn between 1912 and 1914. Since the area around the station was largely undeveloped at the time, the trains initially passed through without stopping. The stop was only opened for use for a horse race on the Farmsen trotting track from which it was named in 1924. Afterwards, it was mainly used as a stop at events. During this time, a multi-track sweeping system was built northeast of the station, which existed until 1971. In 1933, the trotting track became a permanent stop.

In the post-war period, the area around the station became more densely populated. At the same time, the utilization of the harness racing track fell. In 1976 the last horse race took place on the site, which was finally built with apartments in the early 1990s. The only trotting track in Hamburg is now in Bahrenfeld . Considerations to change the name of the underground station in Farmsen-Berne for this reason were never implemented. Nevertheless, from 2001 onwards there was a comprehensive renovation of the structural facilities. The platform was renewed, its roof completely rebuilt, as was the access to the station building, which was also extensively renovated. As part of this construction work, the Trabrennbahn stop was also given an elevator, making the stop barrier-free.
