The Norderstedt Mitte station is a terminus of the U1 line of the Hamburg subway . At the same time it is the southern end point of the A2 line, formerly known as the Alsternordbahn , which is operated by the AKN Eisenbahn . On the street level above the underground there is a bus station , which is served by several Norderstedter bus lines operated by the VHH .
investment
The station consists of the platform area with three tracks on the -1 level and three access systems on street level. The main reception building with bus transfer system and taxi stand is located south of the intersecting Rathausallee, to the north there is a smaller, brick-built reception building. In addition, at the northern end of the platform there is easier access from the P + R car park and from the town hall building.
The shorter track of the Alsternordbahn (line A2) flows from the north in the middle of the platform at a buffer stop . On the outside of the platform are the two lower-lying tracks of the subway. The three-track, northern part of the station is in the open cut, the southern, two-track part in the tunnel under the Rathausallee and the bus station. To the south of it there is a double platform change and a smaller underground station. The Alsternordbahn has no parking facilities in Norderstedt Mitte. Both the underground and the A2 have their end point in Norderstedt Mitte, the tracks of both systems are not connected to each other.
The station is handicapped accessible and has fixed stairs , an escalator (upwards) and an elevator . In the large southern entrance building there is a waiting area protected from the weather by automatic doors, a sales room for newspapers, etc. (station requirements), as well as - further south - toilets and social rooms for the bus drivers. An existing room for ticket sales and transport services was taken out of service in the 2000s. Tickets are sold from machines .
The facility belongs to the city of Norderstedt, which has commissioned the Hamburger Hochbahn (HHA) and AKN Eisenbahn through the Norderstedt transport company (VGN) to operate it.
history
The predecessor of today's station was the Harkseichen-Falkenberg stop of the Alsternordbahn from 1953 to the early 1990s . It was a little further south, in the area of what was then the Heidbergstrasse level crossing. At that time, the area around the station was sparsely populated and more agricultural. After the city of Norderstedt was founded in 1970, however, the new Norderstedt Mitte district was built here. In May 1979 the Harkseichen-Falkenberg stop was therefore renamed Norderstedt Mitte .
From 1991 to 1996, the subway from Garstedt was extended from the city of Norderstedt to improve traffic connections to Norderstedt . The track of the Alsternordbahn was relocated on a new route a little further west of the old one, so that the old route for the subway could be lowered and completely rebuilt with two tracks. The A2 platform of the old Norderstedt Mitte station “wandered” in steps to the north, at last it was north of Rathausallee. After the new underground line went into operation in 1996, the A2 was shortened to this point. A short time later, the access to the A2 to the central track in the new train station was put into operation, so that A2 passengers can now change to the waiting underground in the direction of Hamburg on the same platform.
traffic
The rail traffic of the two lines A2 and U1 in Norderstedt Mitte station is operated on behalf of the city of Norderstedt (via the city's own Verkehrsgesellschaft Norderstedt mbH (VGN) as a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Norderstedt ) by AKN (line A2) and Hamburger Hochbahn AG (line U1 ) carried out.
