The Ulzburg South Station is a hub in the network of AKN Railway . This is where the AKN main line and the Alsternordbahn (ANB), which are now used by the A1 and A2 lines, meet. In addition, trains on the A3 line start and end in Ulzburg Süd (formerly Elmshorn-Barmstedt-Oldesloer Eisenbahn , Ulzburg Süd was previously outside the actual EBO).

The train station is on the western edge of the Henstedt-Ulzburg district of the same name . In 2012 there were 8,274 people entering and leaving Ulzburg Süd on an average day.

history

The station was laid out in 1953 under the name Beckershof on the AKN main line in order to link it with the Alsternordbahn, which was newly built at the time, but was soon renamed Ulzburg Süd. The station was modernized in the mid-1990s. Since then, the trains of the Alsternordbahn have mainly been running on the middle track 2, between the two tracks of the AKN main line, so that there is a platform-like (and simultaneous) transition between the trains of the lines on both sides. Before that, the Alsternordbahn had a separate platform on the eastern side of the facility. The change made changing between the two lines much easier, as the platform no longer has to be changed.

From 1976 to 2002, the central signal box for the routes was located at this station. It has since been relocated to the AKN operations center in Kaltenkirchen. Parking spaces were built on the area previously used for this purpose.

construction

The station has two central platforms with three tracks. The middle track can be reached from both platforms. To the south of the platforms there are two sidings , each about 130 meters long. Even further south, between the Meeschensee stops on the Alsternordbahn and Tanneneck on the AKN main line, there is a connecting curve between the two lines. It is used for freight trains from the direction of Eidelstedt to the Norderstedter Industriebahn (NIB).

business

Around 300 passenger trains stop, start or end in Ulzburg Süd every week.

The through trains of the AKN main line (A1) usually use the two outer tracks 1 and 3. The middle track 2 is used by the trains on the A2 line. According to the schedule, there is a direct connection between the two lines with a transition time of 1 to 2 minutes. A3 trains usually start and end on platform 3, while platform 2 is mostly used on weekends and public holidays. Continuous trains on the A2 line from Norderstedt Mitte in the direction of Kaltenkirchen also leave platform 3.

In December 2009, a bus stop for bus route 293 was set up on the eastern forecourt of the station. The 593 bus has also stopped here since December 2012.
