Elmshorn station (1844)
Branch of the Marschbahn (2013)

The Elmshorn Station is a passenger station in Schleswig-Holstein Elmshorn . This is where the Hamburg-Altona-Kiel route and the Marschbahn meet. Elmshorn is also the starting point for the Elmshorn – Bad Oldesloe railway line . With 15,000 daily travelers it is the third busiest train station in Schleswig-Holstein; it is of the Deutsche Bahn in the station category classified. 3

history

The Elmshorn train station went into operation on September 18, 1844 at the same time as the Altona – Kiel (AKE) railway line was opened .

The Glückstadt-Elmshorn Railway Company (GEEG) opened the railway line from Elmshorn to Glückstadt on July 20, 1845 . This was later extended further north and now leads to Westerland on Sylt ( Marschbahn ).

The operating companies for these lines were taken over by the Prussian State Railways in 1887 (AKE) and 1890 (GEEG) .

In 1896, the Elmshorn-Barmstedter Eisenbahn-AG (EBOE) opened another railway line at Elmshorn station: the Elmshorn – Bad Oldesloe railway line .

The former branch line to the factory and the port of Peter Kölln was dismantled in the early 1990s .

business

In Elmshorn the Nordbahn runs on the regional train lines RB61 and RB71 from Itzehoe to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof or from Wrist to Hamburg-Altona . During rush hour , some trains of the Nordbahn in / from Hamburg start and end in Elmshorn. Regional Express trains on the RE7 and RE70 lines of the DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein connect Hamburg with Kiel Central Station and the RE6 line connects Hamburg-Altona via the Marschbahn with Westerland on Sylt . The RE7 line is split in Neumünster and goes to Flensburg and Kiel. The AKN runs on the Elmshorn – Bad Oldesloe railway via Barmstedt to Ulzburg Süd .

The Hamburg-Altona-Kiel line is electrified in full, the march line only to Itzehoe.

The Elmshorn train station has four platform tracks. On track 1 with a side platform, regional express trains run by DB Regio in the direction of Kiel, Flensburg and Westerland and the regional trains of the northern line to Itzehoe and Wrist. Trains to Itzehoe and Hamburg run from tracks 2 and 3 with a partially covered island platform and the AKN trains on head track 1a next to track 1. The city's ZOB is in front of the train station . With three continuous tracks for Deutsche Bahn and Nordbahn, the capacity of the station is very low. To the north of the station, there is a passing track and two sidings on both the Marschbahn and the Neumünster line .

future

Since the Elmshorn train station has urban and functional deficits, such as poor connections to bus services or insufficient weather protection, it should be redesigned. However, this project failed. However, the city of Elmshorn successfully applied for the Europan architects' competition at the end of 2008 . The construction of an urban roof is planned. In addition, the Hamburg S-Bahn line S3 is to be extended from Pinneberg to Elmshorn and a third track is to be created in this relation to relieve the pressure. It is considered to build a train stop “Elmshorn Süd”.
