The Heide (Holst) station is the only crossing station in Dithmarschen in Schleswig-Holstein . This is where the Hamburg – Elmshorn – Heide – Westerland (Sylt) and the Neumünster – Heide and Heide – Büsum lines cross .

history

The station was established in 1877 by the Westholsteinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft with its main line from Neumünster to Karolinenkoog with a ferry to Tönning , which was expanded a short time later to include direct connections to Hamburg via Itzehoe and Elmshorn and subsequently to Husum and further north by integrating the Marschbahn . In 1883 the Westholsteinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft reached Büsum, branching off from the Karolinenkoog route . To the north of the train station, the connection to Büsum crosses the line to Husum. From 1905 to 1938, north of the station forecourt, was the premises of the Norderdithmarschen district railway , which, as a meter- gauge narrow - gauge railway, connected the Geestorte Norderdithmarschen to Heide. Their terminus was northeast of the state station, there were also transfer tracks there. The relatively large reception and administration building, which is used as a youth center and by a music school , is still preserved today. From 1878 to 1978 the Heide depot was in the southern head of the station to cover and provide wagons for the trains used from here.

business

Since December 2016, regional express trains of the DB Regio have been running hourly in both directions on the Hamburg – Westerland (Sylt) march line . There are also some intercity trains operated by DB Fernverkehr . Regional trains run between Heide and Itzehoe , offset from the through trains , to serve the stations in this section every hour, through which the Westerland – Hamburg trains usually pass.

The Heide – Büsum route is also served every hour by the nordbahn railway company, the Neumünster – Heide route every two hours . The trains of all lines arrive in Heide every full hour and thus form a cycle node of the integral cycle timetable in Schleswig-Holstein.

The railway lines touching Heide are not electrified.

Railway systems and facilities

On September 26, 2014, the station was reopened after a major renovation. A new single-storey reception building with a travel center (ticket sales) and other service facilities such as a bakery and kiosk was built to the west of the railway by 2013 . In addition to the new house platform, there is a central platform with tracks 2 to 4 (of which track 3 ends butt at the platform) and another side platform with track 5. There is an underpass under the entire track system that connects the two sides of the city and provides access to the platforms; it is barrier-free with elevators .

The old station building was located on an island between today's tracks 1 and 2 (until 2011 tracks 2 and 1) on the Marschbahn and 4 and 5 (until 2011 tracks 101-103) on the line to Büsum and Neumünster. Access to the platforms was at ground level; when there was train traffic, the crossings were blocked by barriers. The old station building was demolished in early May 2011. During the renovation phase, the tracks were renumbered starting from the west, while until 2011 they were numbered from the central station building.

Up to the end of 2012, tracks 1 and 2 still had a common central platform, but this was closed after the new outer platform on track 1 went into operation; since the beginning of 2013, the old central platform had been completely removed and dismantled. Due to the demolition of the old station building, there was no longer any personnel-operated ticket sales in the station area between 2011 and the beginning of 2013, so a replacement shop was set up in Bahnhofstrasse, which was about 300 meters away. There were several delays in construction. Among other things, after completion in 2013, after protests, the stairs were given a new, more slip-resistant surface. The roofing on the central platform was also only completed in mid-2014.

Old signal box in Heide

The Heid central bus station , which until 2014 could only be reached by crossing several streets far from the train station, was completely relocated to the new combined platform on track 1 after the renovation work was completed , in order to be able to implement better connections between bus and train.

The new electronic signal box (ESTW) was put into operation at the beginning of 2011 . Since then, the station has been remote-controlled from Itzehoe .

Tracks

Since the renovation, the station has five tracks. If the tracks are used as planned, the trains run as follows:

  • Track 1: long-distance and regional trains in the direction of Hamburg
  • Track 2: Long-distance and regional trains to Westerland
  • Track 3: Regional trains to and from Itzehoe (stump track)
  • Track 4: Regional trains from Neumünster to Büsum
  • Track 5: Regional trains from Büsum to Neumünster, as well as a regional train to Husum in the evening

Until 2011 the tracks were used as follows:

  • Track 1: Long-distance and regional trains to Westerland
  • Track 2: long-distance and regional trains to Hamburg, regional trains to Itzehoe
  • Track 101: last closed track, before that from and to Itzehoe
  • Track 102: regional trains from and to Büsum and Neumünster, regional trains from and to Itzehoe
  • Track 103: regional trains to and from Büsum and Neumünster
