Wilster train station is northeast of the city center. Meanwhile the privately owned reception building is located between the rails of the march web and the rail connection to Brunsbuttel at the Bahnhofstrasse . There are several parking spaces in front of the building . There is a residential area to the west of the station and an industrial area to the east . At the western end of the platforms at the Marschbahn in the direction of Husum, the street Hinterm Bahnhof crosses the tracks with a level crossing . To reach the platform on platform 2, you have to cross it.

Wilster station is on the Marschbahn ( VzG 1210), which runs from Elmshorn to Westerland . It is a largely double-track and non-electrified main line that is used for long-distance and local traffic. It is used as KBS 130 in the timetable of the Deutsche Bahn is run. The single-track, non-electrified branch line to Brunsbüttel (VzG 1214) began in Wilster . Today this is only served by freight trains and has been preserved as a connecting railway.

history

The Glückstadt-Elmshorner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft opened the Wilster station on November 1, 1878 as a through station on the Marschbahn. The station building was built around 500 meters west of the current location at the northern end of Taggstrasse. On June 1, 1920, the Hochdonn high bridge , which crosses the Kiel Canal , was put into operation as a replacement for the swing bridge near Brunsbüttel . Since the high bridge is twelve kilometers away from the old bridge, the march railway between Wilster and Sankt Michaelisdonn had to be re-routed. The old route was retained as a branch line to Brunsbüttel, so the station became a wedge station . In the course of this, the systems for passenger traffic were moved into the wedge between the two railway lines . Both in front of the branching of the two lines and on the side of the line in the direction of Brunsbüttel there were some tracks for freight traffic . At these there was a goods shed and loading ramps , which were used, among other things, to transport cattle.

The two-storey station building built in 1920 was demolished between 1959 and 1960 and replaced by a smaller one-storey building.

On May 27, 1988, the last passenger train went to Brunsbüttel, a bus connection was set up as an alternative. In the same year, the station building was replaced by two pavilions, which were built directly on the house platform at the Marschbahn. Both the old building and the two pavilions are now privately owned.

In 1991 the three mechanical signal boxes were taken out of service. Since then, the station has been remote-controlled from the electronic signal box in Itzehoe .

The trains go on platform 1 in the direction of Itzehoe .
