The NBE Nordbahn Eisenbahngesellschaft mbh & Co. KG , spelling nordbahn , is a railway company based in Hamburg . It has existed since December 2002 and is a subsidiary of BeNEX GmbH and AKN Eisenbahn GmbH .
The NBE is a member of the tariff association of federal and non-federal railways in Germany .
Line network
The company operates four lines on a total of five railway lines in Schleswig-Holstein .
From December 2002 to December 2011 only the approximately 45 kilometer long Neumünster – Bad Oldesloe railway was served. In September 2009, the Nordbahn won the transport of its existing line Neumünster - Bad Oldesloe and additionally the traffic on the relation Neumünster – Heide – Büsum , which was previously carried out by the Schleswig-Holstein-Bahn (a brand of the parent company AKN). Both lines have been in operation since December 11, 2011 for a period of ten years.
These routes are served as planned with LINT 41 vehicles. The vehicles are serviced in the AKN workshops in Kaltenkirchen and Neumünster Süd.
In April 2012, Nordbahn won the tender for operation for 13 years from December 2014 on the two regional train lines on the route from Itzehoe and Wrist to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and Hamburg-Altona. It thus emerged as the winner of the "Netz Mitte" network alongside Deutsche Bahn.

The Nordbahn Eisenbahngesellschaft leases 7 Alstom Coradia Lint 41 vehicles from AKN, which are used on the Büsum - Neumünster and Neumünster - Bad Oldesloe routes. These are serviced at AKN in Kaltenkirchen and in Neumünster Süd.
FLIRT 3 electric multiple units are used on regional train lines 61 and 71 . There are 8 six and 7 five-part units. These are serviced in the Hamburg-Tiefstack workshop . These railcars offer barrier-free access, a barrier-free vacuum toilet system and sockets in the first class. The railcars are designed for operation at 160 kilometers per hour.
