Europan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Europan is the largest European residential and urban development competition initiative for young architects and carries out the architecture and urban development competition of the same name every two years on current topics with a focus on residential construction .

Structure of the initiative

The initiative was founded in 1989 and is supported by 19 European countries. The organizer of these competitions is the association "Europan Europe" based in Paris , which forms the European umbrella organization of a network of national Europan organizations. The president of the association is currently the former mayor of Lausanne , Yvette Jaggi. The respective national organizations consist of representatives of public administrations, cities and municipalities, as well as representatives of the building owners and architects.

The German section EUROPAN - German Society for the Promotion of Architecture, Housing and Urban Development eV has its seat in Berlin .

The initiative has a network of experts, architects, urban planners and around 250 European cities who jointly develop and analyze the topics and from whose ranks the juries are made up.

Goals of the competition

The aim of the competition is to find innovative and experimental approaches for locations that are proposed by European cities and to promote the dialogue about architecture and urban development locally and internationally, as well as to support talented young architects from the first stage to the realization of their ideas. Furthermore, the competition should help the participating municipalities and creative people to build networks across Europe and thus, according to the idea, to use synergy effects .

Participants must be under 40 years of age. You can join together in working groups and z. Sometimes also work on several locations in parallel. In each country, a national jury selects the winners for the respective locations.

Europan offers young European architects the opportunity to make a name for themselves outside of the usual competition with unusual designs. This is facilitated by the possibility of also working on locations outside one's own national border, as well as the great attention that the competition and its publications enjoy in specialist circles. Among the previous winners were some now well-known offices such as Riegler Riewe ( Graz , Austria ), MVRDV ( Netherlands ), NL Architects (Netherlands) or Njiric & Njiric ( Croatia ). The realized realizations include u. a. Social housing construction in Kempten (Allgäu) by Andreas Hild and Tillmann Kaltwasser, Hild & K. , Munich - Europan 1, 1993.
