Title and function of the mayor
The mayor bears the title syndic de Lausanne in French . Its function is to preside over the city council ( French conseil municipal ) and also to chair meetings.
history
Since the founding of the canton of Vaud , the city of Lausanne has long been ruled by representatives of bourgeois parties. The first president was Samuel Jacques Hollard , who politicized conservatively . In 1934, Arthur Maret was the first member of the Social Democrats to be elected president, who was in office until 1937. After that, the FDP and the SP alternated with the Presidium. From a political point of view, the city tour has been in the left hand since 1990, and in 2016 the social democrat Grégoire Junod replaced the Green Daniel Brélaz .
With Pierre Graber , Georges-André Chevallaz and Jean-Pascal Delamuraz , a total of three syndics were later elected to the Swiss Federal Council. Since 1803 there were eleven members of the FDP, five of the SP and one each of the LPS, respectively. of the Greens. Seven others were liberal and two were conservative.
