Paul-René Martin

Paul-René Martin (born October 17, 1929 in Lausanne ; † April 14, 2002 there , entitled to live in Wagenhausen , Saint-Aubin-Sauges and Lausanne) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

education and profession

After studying law in Lausanne , he completed his licentiate in 1954 and became a private tutor in the same year. After four years as a teacher, in 1960 he became head of personnel and administration at the Swiss Federal Agricultural Research Institute in Lausanne. From 1967 to 1976 he was Secretary General of the Department of Agriculture, Industry and Trade of the Canton of Vaud . He was also an examining magistrate at the military court .

Political career

In 1965 Martin was elected to the municipal council of the city of Lausanne and from 1976 onwards he was responsible for industrial operations as a councilor. A year later (1977) he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud. Between 1979 and 1984 he was President of the Vaud FDP. In 1981 he was elected mayor of Lausanne and in 1983 he received the European Prize for his city. In 1987 he was elected to the National Council , where he had a seat until 1991.
