Louis Joël

Louis Joël (born July 25, 1823 in Lausanne , † November 30, 1892 there , entitled to live in Cossonay and from 1853 in Lausanne) was a Swiss politician .

biography

Joël studied architecture and completed internships in France and England . From 1851 to 1857 he was Labor Inspector for the City of Lausanne . As the liberal mayor from 1867 to 1882, he experienced Lausanne at a time full of major urban changes and new buildings. He was responsible for various projects, especially for the construction of Rue Haldimand from 1857 to 1861. Between 1859 and 1864 and between 1869 and 1881 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud .

In the Swiss Army he was a lieutenant colonel and in 1863 he became the cantonal chief of weapons for the engineering troops .
