Engineering team

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The genius troupe (also Engineer Corps , formerly technical troops or engineer troops ;. Of fr = génie military engineering) is a historical branch of service , which was intended to carry out all technical work occurring in the field and Fortress war. The tasks of the engineering troops overlap with those of the engineering troops . In the Belgian and Swiss armies , engineering troops still exist today as a separate branch.

history

The officers of this weapon formed the genius corps, in Germany the engineer corps . Historically, a committee of geniuses is an advisory authority for fortress construction . The troops themselves were referred to as engineers or fortress pioneers. The officers of genius had to design fortresses and fortification structures of all kinds and to manage their construction. In the fortress war , both in attack and defense, they directed the fortification-technical service. This included building saps and mines , building bridges, and destroying roads, bridges, railways and other militarily relevant traffic routes. In coastal wars (except in war ports ) they could also be responsible for laying out sea mine barriers.

The team of engineers included the following specialists: sappers for building sapphires and entrenchments, miners for building underground systems, pontoniers for building bridges.

In some armies the railway and telegraph troops were organically related to the engineering troops or were formed from them during the war, as in Germany the field telegraph departments; in others they were independent.

Except in the Swiss army, this type of service is no longer present in modern armies. Fortifications are no longer part of the tactical measures in war of movement. As far as necessary, the construction of protective structures will be carried out by the pioneers.

The engineering troops are mainly used for tasks that require special technical knowledge and equipment.

Mission of the engineering troops:

  • Ensure the mobility ( Mobility )
  • Restricting the opponent's mobility ( countermobility ),
  • Ensuring protection and survivability ,
  • general genius tasks ( General Engineering )
  • Disaster relief ( disaster relief , see also rescue forces ).

The engineering troops in Army XXI consist of the following types of formation:

  • Genie Battalion (G Bat)
  • Pontoon Battalion (Pont Bat)
  • Motorboat Company (Mot Boot Kp)
  • Engineering staff
  • Panzersappeurbataillon (Pz Sap Bat)
  • Airfield Sappers Company (Flpl Sap Kp)
  • Army diver (C FB AT)

Army divers

A diving swimmer unit existed in the Swiss Army from 1969 to 1980. After a long break without army divers, some were trained again from around 2008. The diver company consists of professional -, time - and militia -Military. She belongs to the genius and rescue troops and is not a combat diver , but operational diver with the following tasks

  • Conducting underwater explorations for the engineering troops
  • Search and recovery of people, material and ammunition in the water
  • Performing underwater work for the army or police
  • Support of other troops with security and rescue service on and on the water
  • Implementation of underwater controls on military infrastructures
  • Supporting water training for other troops
  • Reinforcement of the police and border guards , in case the police divers reach their limits.

In order to become a military service diver, you must have completed a recruiting school (of any type of army ), a very good physical condition and at least a CMAS ** or equivalent certification as a recreational diver. Army members who want to be relocated are first subjected to extensive athletic tests to determine their physical endurance. Second, skills in swimming , apnea and scuba diving are tested. If the member of the army achieves satisfactory results in these tests, he will be reallocated and then sent to the army diver basic course and specialization weeks.
