Victor Gaudard

Victor Gaudard (born June 26, 1797 in Echallens , † May 24, 1871 in Lausanne , resident in Lausanne, Echallens and Bioley-Orjulaz ) was a conservative Swiss politician .

After graduating in natural sciences from the Faculté de Paris , Gaudard became a viticulture inspector . He later worked as a surveyor and auctioneer . In the Swiss Army he was a captain in the staff of the engineering troops .

Political career

In 1831 Gaudard became an assessor at the Justice of the Peace and was elected as the Grand Councilor of the Canton of Vaud in the same year . A year later he was elected to the Lausanne municipal council, but only remained there until 1833. From 1848 to 1857 he was city ​​president and resisted the decision of the Vaudois government, which wanted to place the city under administrative supervision. Immediately after his time as mayor, he was again active in the municipal council and stayed there until 1861. In the meantime, since 1849, he has taken a break in the grand council. In 1862 he was re-elected to the Grand Council and a year later to the municipal council. He held both offices until 1871.
