Samuel Jacques Hollard

Samuel Jacques Hollard (born July 17, 1759 in Lausanne , † September 23, 1832 there , entitled to live in Orbe and Lausanne) was a conservative Swiss politician .

education and profession

Hollard completed a law degree and later became a notary . Under the Bernese rule he worked first as a sack master and later as an asset manager and banker.

Political career

In 1803, at the time of mediation , Samuel Jacques Hollard was elected the first mayor of Lausanne ; he held the office until 1815. From 1803 to 1808 he was also a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud .

Hollard made a significant contribution to the expansion of the city of Lausanne: During his tenure, the parliament building (1804), the St.-François post office (1808) and the La Mercerie church (1811) were built. From 1812 he had the Flon valley filled in to build the Place de la Riponne.
