Berthold van Muyden

Berthold van Muyden (born June 15, 1852 on Bonmont , municipality of Chéserex , † April 19, 1912 in Lausanne ) was a Swiss politician ( liberal ).

Life

After attending the Galliard College and the Lausanne Academy , van Muyden studied law at the Universities of Leipzig and Heidelberg . In 1876 he graduated with a licentiate , in 1879 he was admitted to the bar . However, he did not practice his profession and lived as a privateer.

In 1892/93 van Muyden belonged to the municipal council (legislature) of Lausanne. From 1894 to 1907 he was on the city ​​council (executive), which he chaired from July 19 to December 31, 1897 and again from December 29, 1900 to July 18, 1907 as city president. He announced his resignation on June 29, 1907 because of a health problem.

Van Muyen also worked as a historian . The Pages d'histoire lausannoise (1911) was the first monograph on the city of Lausanne. From 1890 to 1912 he was president of the Société d'histoire de la Suisse romande . He was a member of numerous non-profit associations and foundations. In 1909 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Geneva .

He was a member of the Société d'Étudiants de Belles-Lettres .
