Double Dealer ( Japanese ダ ブ ル ・ デ ィ ー ラ ー , daburu dīrā ) was a Japanese power metal band founded by Takenori Shimoyama in 2000 . As one of the few Japanese bands that also toured in Europe , it was able to celebrate small successes up to the breakup in 2007.

history

Double Dealer was founded as an all-star project of the Japanese hard rock and metal scene. In 1998 the two power metal bands Saber Tiger and Concerto Moon gave a joint concert in Tokyo . A deep friendship developed from this. When Takao Ozaki left Concerto Moon in 1999, guitarist Norifumi Shima decided to record a solo album. While looking for a suitable singer, he asked Takenori Shimoyama from Saber Tiger, who agreed directly. Over time, the project developed into a joint group, which was then called Double Dealer. The group was named after the Deep Purple piece Lady Double Dealer from the album Stormbringer (1974). Toshiyuki Koike (keyboards) and Kohsaku Mitani from Concerto Moon, as well as Yoshio Isoda (drums) from Saber Tiger completed the group.

In early 2000, Double Dealer recorded their self-titled debut album . The brackground vocals were taken over by Manabu Takaya and Tatsuya Nakamura from the befriended band Blindman . The album was a success in Japan and also took the group to France for a concert.

The second album Deride at the Top was released in 2001 and, like its predecessor, offered traditional power metal with speed metal elements in the style of loudness and ezo . Solo guitarists such as Uli Jon Roth , Ritchie Blackmore and Yngwie Malmsteen are also the main sources of inspiration for the group. With Time to Die there is also a new edition of a Concerto Moon piece on the sound carrier. After a long break, the studio album Fate & Destiny was released in 2005 , followed by a live CD from a gig in Osaka and a concert DVD that was recorded in Tokyo. All albums were sold in Europe through the metal label Limb Music .

The last studio album to date, Desert of Lost Souls , has not yet been released in Europe and is only available as an import CD. In 2007 the group disbanded.
