NL Architects

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NL Architects are a Dutch architecture firm based in Amsterdam. The office was founded in 1997 by Pieter Bannenberg, Walter van Dijk, Kamiel Klaasse and Mark Linnemann. The current partnership exists between Bannenberg, van Dijk and Klaasse. In 2008, the office presented virtual realities at the Venice Biennale.

In its projects, the office repeatedly deals with the topic of everyday life and the social, sometimes also performative possibilities of city and architecture, and explores the potential of how individuals can interact and become active in urban space. The architecture is specifically staged as a usable object (facade as a climbing wall; basketball court on the roof; parking on the floor). NL Architects are thus in the tradition of programmatic design, similar to the Dutch offices MVRDV or Office for Metropolitan Architecture .

Another focus of the office is on crossing boundaries between architecture and art (Soundshower, Boombench, Cruise City).
