One of the entrances to the station

The Straßburger Straße subway station is a tunnel stop on the Hamburg subway line U1 in the Dulsberg district .

investment

The underground station has a 120-meter-long central platform in two lower positions under Nordschleswiger Strasse, for example between Eulenkamp in the south and the eponymous Straßburger Strasse in the north. The butterfly ceiling is particularly distinctive here. Stairs lead from both ends of the platform to a lower hall in each case. The northern access area is by far the larger, from here a total of six places on the surface can be reached via stairs. The size of the vestibule is an indication of an advance payment for another line possibly crossing at right angles, which was never specifically planned. At the same time, at the time of the construction of the stop, there were considerations to establish a junction on Straßburger Straße between today's U1 and another underground line in the direction of Dehnhaide.

The southern vestibule at Eulenkamp has another three entrances. The abbreviation of the station at the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is "SR".

Barrier-free renovation

The underground station is not yet barrier-free. Construction work to create accessibility has been taking place since summer 2018.

history

Wall tiles in mosaic look in the intermediate level

The “Straßburger Straße” station went into operation in March 1963 after a construction period of around two years. Initially, the trains only ran on one track to and from Wandsbek-Markt. It wasn't until a good five months later, in August 1963, that the underground line to Wandsbek-Gartenstadt was ready. This was the complete commissioning of the plant. Apart from renovations to the lighting technology, the platform level is still in its original design. The entrances and the mezzanine level were rebuilt and modernized in 2009 and 2010, some of which were given newly designed wall tiles.

Connection

At the Straßburger Straße underground station there are connections to a total of five bus lines. During rush hour there are around 66 bus departures per hour from the bus stop. The night bus line 600 runs every 30 minutes when the underground is closed.

Track remains at the tram stop on Straßburger Strasse

After the opening of the stop, there was initially a connection to line 16 of the Hamburg tram , which was discontinued 2 months after the opening of the subway.

Usage figures

The underground station is used by around 17,000 (Mon-Fri, 2017) passengers who get on or off every day. The buses at the U Straßburger Straße stop have around 3,700 newcomers a day (2014), making the station one of the 60 most-used bus stops in Hamburg.
