The subway station Farmsen is a stop of the Hamburg subway - U1 in the district Farmsen-Berne .

Location and structure

The Farmsen stop is centrally located in the eponymous district of the Farmsen-Berne district. The facility has two central platforms, each over 120 meters long, with a total of four tracks. The platforms are partly above August-Krogmann-Strasse, which is crossed at approximately right angles. As a rule, the two outer tracks are used for through traffic on the U1 line, while in Farmsen trains that start or stop run over the inner tracks.

On both sides of August-Krogmann-Straße there are vestibules, from which stairs and on the south side also elevators lead to both platforms. One of the main workshops of the Hamburg subway is located north of the Farmsen stop. Operations on the U1 line between Großhansdorf or Ohlstedt and Jungfernstieg are controlled centrally from the Farmsen route center. An electronic signal box has been located in Farmsen since 2004 , and the Volksdorf signal box is also remote-controlled.

At the northeast exit is a three meter high concrete stele designed by Horst Janssen in 1962. It is one of his few works in public space.

history

The Farmsen stop went into operation as part of the so-called Walddörferbahn as early as 1918. At the beginning of the 1960s, Hamburger Hochbahn built the Farmsen underground workshop. In this context, the system also received the second platform, the original platform was relocated, the access building was rebuilt and another entrance was created on the west side. In 1996 new entrances were created on the south side, which were already equipped with elevators. In addition, the platform roofs were completely renewed this year.

Others

The abbreviation for the stop is FA. The distances to the neighboring Trabrennbahn and Oldenfelde stops are relatively large at 1.4 km and 1.1 km respectively. With seven bus lines, the Farmsen underground station is an important hub for local transport in the east of Hamburg, especially for the connection to the Rahlstedt district.
