Structure and location

The Ohlstedt stop has an approximately 120 meter long central platform on the embankment. It is located south of the Westerfelde / Alte Dorfstraße road in the Hamburg district of Wohldorf-Ohlstedt . The station building is also on this street, from which a staircase leads to the platform. As part of the large-scale “Walddörfer 2016” project, the stop has been barrier-free since 2016 with an elevator installed parallel to the stairs.

There is a five-track sweeping and parking facility north of the stop .

history

The elevated train stop was completed in 1918 as part of the Walddörferbahn , based on a design by Eugen Göbel, still under the name “Wohldorf-Ohlstedt” . Elevated trains reached the station electrically for the first time in 1925, with steam trains running temporarily before that. Since then the current name "Ohlstedt" has been used. From February 1, 1925 to January 29, 1961, the last remnants of the Alt-Rahlstedt-Volksdorf-Wohldorf electric train, which has been running at ground level since May 1907, began here to travel to Wohldorf.

Today, the elevated railway station is still largely in its original state. The platform was lengthened several times in order to be able to use longer trains; last in the early 1970s for three coupled DT3 units. Since 1927, the line to downtown Hamburg has consistently been expanded to two tracks. Nevertheless, a train usually only runs every 20 minutes, only during rush hour the frequency is compressed to 10 minutes.
