Puelén is a municipality in the department of the same name in the province of La Pampa in central Argentina .
The name comes from the Mapuche language and means plain of the east .
history
On August 19, 1882, near the later settlement, the Batalla de Cochicó , which was part of the Conquista del desierto (German: desert conquest ), came about .
The settlement was founded on November 14, 1893 and in 1945 it was made a municipality.
Between 1974 and 1978, a water supply system was built between Puelén and the municipalities of Chacharramendi ( Department Utracán ), La Reforma ( Department Limay Mahuida ) and Puelches ( Department Curacó ), the total length of which is 207 km.
In 1991 the municipality had 763 inhabitants, in 2001 there were 836.
coat of arms
The coat of arms is based on the shape of the department. In addition to a goat, it shows a tamarind tree and a small lake, as well as an image of a saint, and with the white-blue ribbon and the rising sun shows clear reference points to the nation and province.
