The Curacó department is located in the south of the La Pampa province in central Argentina and is one of the province's 22 administrative units .

In the north it borders on the departments of Limay Mahuida and Utracán , in the east on the department Lihuel Calel and Hucal , in the west on the department Puelén and in the south and southwest on the province of Río Negro . In the south, the Río Colorado forms a natural border with the neighboring province.

The capital of the department is Puelches.

The name comes from the Mapuche language: kura means stone and ko stands for water .

According to the INDEC , the department had a total of 1040 inhabitants in 2010.
