The Metro Station Hallerstraße is a metro station of Metro Hamburg on the border between Hamburg-Rotherbaum and Harvestehude . It opened on June 2, 1929.

Location and use

The station is located at the intersection Hallerstraße / Rothenbaumchaussee . Today there are residential and commercial buildings as well as the Multimedia Center Rotherbaum built by Norman Foster , which is why the stop also bears this name affix. It also connects the nearby tennis stadium on Rothenbaum , the radio department and administration of the North German Broadcasting Corporation and large parts of the University of Hamburg to the Hamburg rapid transit network. The stop is used by around 17,300 passengers daily (Mon-Fri, 2017).

history

The station opened as part of the KellJung line , now part of the U1 line . The Rothenbaum Stadium of Hamburger SV and other sports fields were formerly located directly at the Hallerstraße station .

During construction of the stop inputs for the construction of were Alster half ring in the form of a special support structure created in the platform center to the planned crossing, in the east the Alster under crossing line to build a staircase.

During the construction of the multimedia center, the underground station was modernized in 1997. In the course of this, the Hamburg-based artist Jürgen Linden created an installation for the bus stop, consisting of a tennis court painted on the ground at the point of the support structure of the aforementioned preliminary construction work with two tennis player paintings in acrylic on the ends. Since October 6, 2015, the stop has had an elevator and is therefore barrier-free.

Transport links

The Metrobus line 15 of the VHH has a stop u. a. at the subway station. It drives through Hallerstraße and ends at Mittelweg in the bus turn (Alsterchaussee stop). The HHA - express bus line 34 stops at the subway station. It drives through Rothenbaumchaussee in a north-south direction.
