The Hallerstraße forms the border between the Hamburger districts Harvestehude and Rother tree . It extends from the street Grindelberg / Grindelallee in the west to Mittelweg in the east and crosses the Rothenbaumchaussee .

Name and story

Hallerstraße is named after the Hamburg Senator and Mayor Nicolaus Ferdinand Haller - and not after his son Martin Haller , who is probably better known today .

During the Nazi era was in October 1938, the street, as well as the eponymous metro station, in Ostmark street renamed because Haller Jewish was descent. After the war ended in 1945, both were given their old names again.

Buildings

Some of the listed high-rise buildings (Hallerstraße 1, 3, 5), which were built from 1946 to 1956, as well as several other listed buildings (Hallerstraße 6, 8, 17, 19, 20, 47, 50, 51, 53, 58, 62, 64, 72, 74, 76), mostly apartment buildings and villas from the Wilhelminian era between 1880 and 1905.

Metro station

The Hallerstraße underground station is located at the intersection of Hallerstraße / Rothenbaumchaussee. It was opened on June 2, 1929 and connects, among other things , the Multimedia Center Rotherbaum, also located there by Norman Foster , as well as the tennis stadium on Rothenbaum, which is accessible from the street .

In the puppet show series Hallo Spencer produced by the NDR -Studio-Hamburg, Hallerstraße is mentioned quite often. The residents of Spencer Village run errands there or meet friends. The NDR- Funkhaus on Rothenbaumchaussee is located on the street that crosses Hallerstrasse.
