Stadtwerke Norderstedt is represented by its subsidiary Verkehrsgesellschaft Norderstedt mbH (VGN) in the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV). She has owned the Alsternordbahn since 1992 , on which the subway was extended from the previous terminus of the Hamburg subway line U1 Garstedt to Norderstedt Mitte in the new city center . This section of the U1 and the A2 line (Norderstedt Mitte - Ulzburg Süd), including the vehicles, belong to the VGN. The subway is operated by Hamburger Hochbahn (HHA) and the A2 line by AKN on behalf of VGN.

The Segeberg district holds 25% of VGN and bears a third of the VGN financing requirements that arise from the operation of the two railway lines U1 and A2. Since December 14, 2008, the U1 has been operated continuously every 20 minutes to Hamburg on weekend nights.

As the customer, VGN is also jointly responsible for the city bus routes in Norderstedt, which are operated by the Hamburg-Holstein transport company (VHH) within the HVV. This also includes the two night bus routes 616 and 626.
