Matutura (between 2013 and 2015 Swakopmund-DRC , before that Democratic Resettlement Community (mostly DRC only ), until 2013 officially DRC Informal Settlement ) was an informal slum area of Swakopmund in Namibia . It is located in the northeast of the city, about a kilometer northeast of the Mondesa suburb .

Since 2013, Matutura has been expanded into a complete suburb with up to 6000 plots.

Matutura currently comprises (as of June 2011) 1370 designated parcels , in a further expansion stage it will be 1678. In this expansion stage, parcels of at least 300 m² in size will be shown for the first time in accordance with state requirements . According to media reports from October 2012, 6,000 plots of land are now to be developed for 600 million Namibian dollars .

Matutura means place where we want to live .

History before 2013

DRC was officially tolerated as an informal settlement by the Swakopmund City Council . In December 2010, residents again asked for the area to be recognized as a formal residential area . According to the mayor of Swakopmund, this recognition was planned for the years 2011 to 2013.

However, there were repeated inconsistencies, as settlers continue to settle outside the established suburbs. These illegal settlements are now to be finally destroyed and the 300 squatters relocated.

In June 2011 the "DRC Open Market" was opened as the first formal market .
