Horst Sandtmann (born April 20, 1923 in Hamburg ; † July 8, 1994 ibid) was a German architect who was particularly notable for the churches he built (partly together with partner architects) in northern Germany in the classic modern style, rebuilt / restored churches as well as numerous construction projects for the Hamburger Hochbahn became known. Hans Kock was involved in the interior decoration of the churches .

biography

As the son of a master builder, Horst Sandtmann first learned the profession of bricklayer by 1942 and then began studying at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences . After an interruption due to the war, he completed his studies in 1948. Afterwards he held a few guest lectures at the Hamburg State Art School .

From 1948 to 1955 he worked for Werner Kallmorgen in Hamburg - from 1950 onwards on an independent basis. 1957 to 1963 worked in a partnership with the architect (and later professor) Friedhelm Grundmann with whom he u. a. built numerous churches. From 1963 until his death, Horst Sandtmann ran his own architecture office in Hamburg.

Between 1961 and 1972, Horst Sandtmann was a judge in architecture competitions.

Horst Sandtmann's grave is located in grid square P 9 (near Cordesbrunnen ) in Hamburg's Ohlsdorf cemetery .
