Railway stations in the Hamburg area |
The Hamburg Airport (airport) station is on the Hamburg-Ohlsdorf – Hamburg Airport railway line and is served by the S1 wing train of the Hamburg S-Bahn .
location
The Hamburg Airport (airport) train station has the postal address Flughafenstrasse 1.
history
For a long time there was a desire for a public transport connection for the airport . The buses of the Hamburger Hochbahn were no longer sufficient for the volume of traffic. Due to the plans for an airport in Kaltenkirchen that had been in progress since the 1960s , the plans for a more efficient public transport connection at Hamburg Airport were initially postponed. After the plans for the Kaltenkirchen airport were put on hold, the plans for a better connection to the existing airport became more concrete. The 2.637 km long route and thus also the airport train station were opened on December 11, 2008.
business
The station, which is operated by DB Station & Service , is served by the S 1 line of the Hamburg S-Bahn every 10-20 minutes . The line is operated with direct current by means of a lateral busbar and therefore has no overhead line .
Full trains of the S1 line coming from the main station are winged at Ohlsdorf station. The short train in front then runs to the airport without any further stops, the short train in the back to Poppenbüttel station. For the return journey, the trains usually turn in the opposite direction at the platforms. On the return journey, both parts of the train are then reunited in Ohlsdorf.
Although the station only has two tracks on one platform, the tracks are numbered 3 and 4 (as shown in the picture).
