The central platform

The train station is located east of City Nord in Barmbek-Nord. Access to the platform is possible via bridges from Hebebrandstrasse and Rübenkamp in the north and the Dakarweg in the south. In addition, the two tracks connect to the freight bypass. The postal address of the train station is Rübenkamp 227.

history

When the Hamburg-Altona city and suburban railway went into operation in 1906, there was no stop at this point on the section between the main train station and Ohlsdorf train station . The station, which opened at the end of 1913, was built with the aim of connecting the Barmbeker Hospital , which was built at the same time . Access to the platform in north-south direction was through the railway station building to the north via a bridge or south via another bridge that also led to the east.

In the 1970s, the south bridge was replaced by a footbridge that now led to the east and west. Thus, the connection to the office buildings in City Nord should be improved. Most of the north bridge was demolished in the early 1980s. A wooden walkway was built as a replacement, which leads past the station building.

Between 2010 and 2012, the northern entrance to the station was converted to make it barrier-free.

At the single-track freight bypass, the Barmbek depot, which is only two-track, is located from the junction to the south.

Station building

After the renovation work in the 1980s, the no longer needed building was to be demolished. In 1984 an association acquired the building, which was listed in 1987. Today the premises are used for events. There is also a restaurant with a beer garden here.

Furnishing

The station has a covered central platform with a kiosk and an elevator at the northern end. The next bus stop is on Hebebrandstrasse.

business

The station is served by trains on the S1 and S11 lines of the Hamburg S-Bahn .
