Eamonn Oliver Walsh

Eamonn Oliver Walsh (born September 1, 1944 in Celbridge ) is an Irish clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Dublin .

Life

Eamonn Oliver Walsh received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Dublin on April 13, 1969 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Dublin and titular bishop of Elmhama on March 7, 1990 . The Archbishop of Dublin, Desmond Connell , ordained him episcopal on April 22 of that year . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Emanuele Gerada , and Auxiliary Bishop James Kavanagh of Dublin.

On Christmas Eve 2009, he announced his personal complicity in the abuse of thousands of children in Ireland at a Christmas mass and apologized to the victims. At the same time, he, like Auxiliary Bishop Raymond Field , offered the Pope his resignation, whose acceptance was rejected by the Pope in both cases in August 2010.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on September 30, 2019.
