Drs. P
Drs. P (actually Heinz Hermann Polzer , born August 24, 1919 in Thun ; † June 13, 2015 in Amsterdam ) was a Swiss-Dutch author, poet, cabaret artist, composer, pianist and singer of Dutch-language songs. Polzer had a degree in economics, hence the pseudonym “Drs. P "( Doctorandus P. ). Other pseudonyms used by Polzer were Drs. S, Geo Staad, Coos Neetebeem, Kirsten Wiedeman, Wilson Hode, Lars Brahe, M. de Gans, Henry van Kol (after his grandfather Henri van Kol), Cyriel P. Licentiaat, Henry Smith, Ludwig Otto Stadtherr, Karin Bloemengracht, Alois Mückenspucker and “een kindervriend” (“a child friend”).
Between the 1950s and 1996, Polzer performed his songs in theaters, pubs, student associations and at events in the Netherlands and Belgium. He accompanied himself on the piano.
Out of gratitude to the Swiss authorities who helped him in World War II, Polzer retained his Swiss citizenship, although he developed into a prominent Dutch-speaking author and composer.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Drs. P was best known for songs such as Dodenrit ("Death Trip "), Veerpont (" Fährschiff "), Het trapportaal ("The staircase"), Knolraap en lof, schorseneren en prei (" Swede, chicory, black salsify and leek ”) and De towardsers Karamazov (“ The Karamazov sisters ”). In the Netherlands and Belgium he was a welcome guest on radio and television.
