The Cantus Stuttgart (formerly: Cantus Cannstatt) is a semi-professional chamber choir led by Jörg-Hannes Hahn . The concerts mostly take place as part of the concert series " Musik am 13. " in the Stadtkirche and the Lutherkirche Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt . The choir also makes regular guest appearances in other European countries.

history

Cantus Stuttgart was founded in 1991 by Thomas Schäfer as Cantus Cannstatt, and in 1996 Jörg-Hannes Hahn took it over . In 2002 the chamber choir sang all of the Bach motets in twelve concerts. In 2003 the ensemble performed in Japan and Korea. In July 2004 the Cantus Stuttgart made a guest appearance at the European Church Music Festival in Schwäbisch Gmünd with a world premiere by Adriana Hölszky , followed by appearances at the Oberstdorf Music Summer. In autumn 2005 the ensemble produced the mass op. 4 for choir and organ by Camille Saint-Saëns on CD (published by CANTATE), followed in 2006 by another appearance at the Oberstdorf Music Summer with Johann Sebastian Bach's B minor mass . In the same year the Cantus Stuttgart appeared for the first time at the European Music Festival Stuttgart, in autumn 2009 it made a guest appearance there with a world premiere of Brice Pauset . The Cantus Stuttgart Chamber Choir is a member of the Association of German Concert Choirs .

repertoire

The Cantus Stuttgart is primarily dedicated to demanding a cappella choral literature. The artistic spectrum ranges from works of the 16th century to choral music of the 21st century with numerous world premieres, including Hans Renner, Dieter Schnebel , Klaus Huber, Hans Zender , Wolfgang Rihm , Milko Kelemen .
