Printed matter from the Hélio-Vaugirard printing house

The printing Hélio-Vaugirard SA , French Imprimerie de Hélio-Vaugirard SA , was in the 15th arrondissement in Paris resident and, with their printed products in the gravure printing process for Philately created significant works. Among many others, this workshop produced the first French postage stamp using this printing technique in 1929. The name Vaugirard goes back to the district name, which was added to the 15th arrondissement of Paris in 1860 and gave its name to the Rue de Vaugirard , the longest inner-city street in Paris at over four kilometers.

history

The name of the company points to the newly emerging printing technology at the time: With the invention of heliogravure at the end of the 19th century, companies such as John Wood in England in 1901 and Bruckmann in Munich in 1903 pioneered this technology. A little later, the company specialized in this technology. Optimizations of the paper quality also ensured an improved print product. The limited company founded on June 30, 1897, had its headquarters at 152, Rue de Vaugirard corner 12, Impasse Ronsin . The current building has studio rooms on two floors and was completed in December 1934. No architect is known.

Information about the printing company could be read on the edge of the printed matter. These were H.-V. Paris , HV Paris , HVParis , Hélio Vaugirard Paris , Hélio-Vaugirard, Paris or Imp.de Vaugirard .

Postage stamps have been produced using the halftone screen process since 1913 , first at Bred'amour Sinhart & Co. and at the same time at Bruckmann Verlag , both based in Munich. Between 1917 and 1951, Hélio-Vaugirard printed various stamp series for various postal administrations, especially for French-occupied areas , including for the Saar Protectorate , but also for Morocco, Syria, Lebanon, Madagascar, Vietnam and others.
