Drumadoon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Drumadoon , formerly Morar House , is a villa in the Scottish town of Helensburgh . The building is on Upper Colquhoun Street across from Hill House on the northern edge of town. In 1991 the villa was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

history

The McAlpine family from Glasgow is named as the client of Drumadoon . As an architect, William Leipner was responsible for the planning. In 1903 the villa was completed after two years of construction. As with the surrounding villas, when planning Drumadoon, care was taken to provide a good panoramic view of the Firth of Clyde from the elevated position on a hill . In the course of the 2000s, the condition of the house deteriorated after water entered as a result of an interruption in renovation of the roof. In 2011 a fire was kindled in a room. However, the damage caused is limited to this space. Graffiti can also be found on the inner walls. Due to the long vacancy and increasing dilapidation, the people disrespectfully referred to the building as Hell House , based on the Hill House opposite .

In October 2012, the property was sold to Edinburgh architect Lorn Macneal for £ 322,000 . His plans to convert the building into an apartment building with eleven residential units and to build another house and two stables in the outdoor area are controversial.

The roofs are covered with red tiles.
