Dry blend

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a dry blend or Dry blend (dry blend) is a mixture of a plastics powder with additives , plasticizers or other additives referred to. The name is particularly common when processing polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

During the production of a dry blend, the temperature remains below the softening temperature of the plastic powder. As a result, the mixture remains free-flowing and can be produced at a lower cost than processes that work with a melt , such as extrusion . Since the homogenization in the mixer takes place under strong shear , a cooling step is often followed.

In the case of powder coatings , which, like plastics , are in solid form, effect coatings produced using the manufacturing process of the same name are referred to as dry blends . Here , effect pigments are added to the finished paint and also mixed dry. Occasionally, mixtures of two powder coatings are used to achieve a matt surface, which are then also referred to as dry blends .
