from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dry Creek Cemetery is a former cemetery in the area of Texas City Terrell . It is located about 14 kilometers north of the city on the link road FM 1565 immediately on the border with Hunt County .

The cemetery was laid out as the burial place of the former settlement Turner's Point , which was founded in 1845 by Elisha Turner on the connection between Shreveport and Dallas . It is named after the river basin of the same name that runs through the country north of the cemetery. In the 1870s, the settlement was abandoned and rebuilt about two and a half kilometers to the southeast under the name Poetry . A new cemetery was also laid out there.

The cemetery still contains 279 graves, including many of the English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh settlers who occupied the area. The oldest still existing grave is that of Samuel Key (1840–1871).
