Drymiskiano Ammoudi

Drymiskiano Ammoudi ( Greek Δρυμισκιανό Αμμούδι , sandy beach of Drymiskos') is a beach on the south coast of the Greek Mediterranean island of Crete . It is located in the municipality of Agios Vasilios in the Rethymno regional district , about nine kilometers southeast of Plakias , the seat of the Finikas municipality .

location

The name Drymiskiano Ammoudi is derived from the closest village, Drymiskos (Δρύμισκος), four kilometers to the northeast , which already belongs to the municipality of Lambi . The municipal boundary between Finikas and Lambi runs immediately east of the beach. Drymiskiano Ammoudi is nestled in a small bay in which the famous palm beach of Preveli is located. To this a path leads over the bank rocks about 300 meters to the west.

description

Beach area

The approximately 300 meter long beach of Drymiskiano Ammoudi consists of small pebbles and is interspersed with larger stones. In front of the eastern section of the beach there is a prominent boulder in the sea, through which the place can be recognized from afar. Immediately behind the beach are some small tamarisk trees , behind which there is an unpaved parking lot. This is followed by three buildings, of which the middle one has only been built as a shell for years. The other two buildings house two taverns, the existence of which is due to the nearby tourist attraction of the palm beach of Preveli . There is also a small shop in the building of the eastern tavern that sells souvenirs and bath products.

Mouth of the stream

Next to the western tavern a small stream flows into the Libyan Sea . Although this is not always water-bearing and is mostly dry in summer, its banks at the mouth area are covered with lush vegetation. Among the plants there is also a few specimens of the Cretan date palm , which made the neighboring palm beach of Preveli famous. The way to this begins behind two bridges over the stream on the west side of Drymiskiano Ammoudi . While the rental of loungers and parasols is no longer permitted on the palm beach of Preveli , these are offered in small numbers on the beach of Drymiskiano Ammoudi .

Access

You can reach Drymiskiano Ammoudi a marked unpaved access road, which at the Old or Great Bridge over the Megalopotamos of the road between Asomatos and the monastery Preveli branches off to the east. The approximately four kilometer long access road winds through small ravines to the beach. First, a tributary of the Megalopotamos is crossed, then the branch on the left to Drymiskos is passed, in order to finally follow the stream that flows into the Mediterranean at Drymiskiano Ammoudi . On the coast, the dirt road continues east to Agia Irini beach and Kerames (Κεραμές).
