Ja'ar (also Ja'ār , Arabic جعار, DMG Ǧaʿār ) is a Yemeni city ​​in Abyan Governorate . It is the capital of the Chanfir district .

In April 2011, insurgents close to al-Qaeda took advantage of the protests and captured the city.

In early September 2011, seven people were killed in air strikes by the Yemeni government.

Furthermore, at the beginning of May 2012 the USA attacked an al-Qaeda fighters base with the help of drones and killed various members.
