biography

Karimi-Rad succeeded Esmail Shushtari as Justice Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2005 .

As such, he was seen as a hardliner who, in cooperation with the Interior Ministry , wanted to eliminate “social vices” by arresting libertines, unrelated people of different sexes who were associated with one another, as well as women who did not wear a veil , punishments possible by law by the paramilitary unit Basij-e Mostaz'afin and Ansare Hezbollah . He also planned to bring charges against journalists who, in the Ministry of Justice's view , violated national security , disrupted public opinion or insulted holiness. On the other hand, he said at a press conference that stoning would not be carried out.

On December 28, 2006, he was killed in a car accident. Gholam-Hossein Elham was succeeded as Minister of Justice .
