Jihad - das Musical (English original title: Jihad: The Musical ) is a musical that premiered in English at the Scottish Edinburgh Festival Fringe in early August 2007. The piece with a duration of about 75 minutes takes an ironic form with respect to the Islamic influenced terrorism (see also jihad ). It caused public protests even before the premiere after bomb attacks had taken place shortly before in the nearby Scottish city of Glasgow , which were also attributed to Islamist bombers.

The focus of the plot is the Afghan farmer Sayid, who is supposed to be persuaded by a terrorist group to carry out an attack. A sensational television reporter finds out about it and tries to arrange it so that she can be the first to report on the expected bomb attack.

The hit of the musical is the song of the villains Hussein Al Mansour I wanna be like Osama ( I want to be like Osama ), sung by Sorab Wadia . The text refers to the Saudi Arabian terrorist leader Osama bin Laden . The song was published by the musical producers on the Internet video platform YouTube , where it received over 100,000 views within a few days.

The musical is produced by James Lawler and the composer is Ben Scheuer .
