Du Fu Cao Tang
Du Fu's Thatched Cottage (or: Hall with thatched roof; Chinese 杜甫 草堂 , Pinyin Dù Fǔ Cǎotáng , English Du Fu Thatched Cottage , in older literature also: Du Fu's straw hut) is a park and museum in honor of the Tang poet Du Fu on the western side Edge of downtown Chengdu , on the banks of the Huanhua Xi (Flowering Stream). In 1961 the Chinese government made the property a national heritage.
Location & building
The park area is located on the edge of the eastern city center of Chengdu, in the Qing yang Gon shang Quan district . The park covers 9.7 hectares and extends along the loops of the Huan Hua Xi , which runs through the district as a dividing course of the Qing Shui he . The Qing Shui He also forms the southern boundary of the park area, which includes the residential area Nullah Mountain Villa on the southern boundary . To the west borders among other things the Er Huan Lu Xi Yi Duan ( 一段 路 一段 , inner city ring ” ). The Sichuan Museum ( 四川 博物院 Sìchuān Bówùguǎn ) is adjacent to the east . The actual park is north of the Caotang lu ( 草堂 路 ) with a view of an artificial lake in the south. Several building complexes with open courtyards are distributed over the site.
history
In 759, Du Fu moved to Chengdu, built a thatched hut on Huan Hua Xi and lived there for four years. This time, the so-called "thatched hut period", was the peak of Du Fu's work. During this time he wrote 240 poems, for example: "My straw hut was torn apart by the autumn wind" and "The Prime Minister of Shu".
Du Fu Cao Tang is now a popular destination for Du Fu enthusiasts from all over the world who want to get close to the poet.
museum
The original straw hats are of course destroyed. The current buildings were built in the early 16th century, during the Ming Dynasty , and extensively renovated in 1811, during the Qing Dynasty .
The historical property consists of different buildings:
- Du Gongbu Memorial Hall ( Chinese 工部 祠 , Pinyin Gōngbù Cí ), where works and an exhibition on the life of Du Fu are shown. The library shows published works by Du Fu, including some rare woodcut editions from the Song Dynasty . The Foreign Language Department shows a large number of translations of Du Fu's works.
- The real Du Fu Cao Tang: A reconstruction of a straw hut with a division into study, bedroom and kitchen.
- The Hall of the Great Poets ( Chinese 大雅 堂 , Pinyin Dàyǎ Táng ): An exhibition with murals depicting scenes from “My straw hut was torn apart by the autumn wind” and “Song of war chariots” on an area of 16 by 4 m. There are also statues of twelve prominent Chinese poets on display ( Qu Yuan , Tao Qian , Li Bai , Wang Wei , Su Shi , Li Qingzhao , Lu You ).
