Dudo from Havelberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dudo von Havelberg (also Udo , Oudo , Judo ) was probably the first bishop of the diocese of Havelberg from 948 to 981 .

Life

It is first mentioned in the founding deed of the diocese. This is usually dated to the year 948, even if this is not undisputed.

Dudo possibly came like the canons of the new diocese from the Mauritius monastery in Magdeburg . Others assume that he came from the St. Maximin Abbey in Trier .

In addition to the aforementioned charter, he is also mentioned on the occasion of the consecration of the first bishops of the dioceses Zeitz , Merseburg and Meißen at Christmas 968 in Magdeburg . There he also signed the protocol of the election of the archbishop together with Dodilo of Brandenburg. He also took oath of obedience to the Archbishop of Magdeburg .
